Pond in a pill

Pond in a pill

Who among us doesn't like to listen to the  soothing noise of rush, splashing water and sounds of birds hidden in offshore plants near lakes and ponds? A fragment of this natural landscape can be successfully transferred to our garden. Pond can greatly increase the attractiveness of your garden, it has a calming influence and can make a gentle, lazy mood of blissful relaxation. Even the small pond will make the garden a fascinating place to take a rest, which give more positive energy, delighting in the summer abundance of vegetation. The very water improves the microclimate of the garden, naturally raises the humidity and lowers the temperature on hot days. Pond can also be a place of growth of interesting aquatic plants and a home for many animals, like fish, amphibians, and small birds. The organization of such a surface requires a lot of preparation, careful design and then proper maintenance.

PLACE SELECTION

  >Place sunny, but not too hard, about six hours a day - to ensure better conditions for plants growth. Best will be exhibit the south-west or south - east.

>Away from trees and shrubs that fall into the water and rot.

>The roots of large trees can damage the reservoir pond.

  >It should be located near place of relaxation, it should be integrated with whole garden and a strong accent in composition.

  CHARACTER, FORM, SIZE

  >The character of pond depends on the style of the garden, if it is a modern plot, with minimal vegetation, the same should be the pond. Simple, geometric shapes, modest, economical planted plants. From the other hand the rustic garden will prefer a more fanciful shapes and lush natural vegetation.

  >The materials used in the construction of the pond, and then around it as a decorative element should also refer to the whole plot and landscaping located on it.

  >Size depends on our needs, expectations, and most of all possibilities.

  >Larger tanks reach the state of biological balance easier, and require less frequent maintenance - removal of algae, water replenishment.

  >The optimal depth is about 100 cm, it should protect the tank from a total freeze in the winter. In another case, you need to empty pond with plants and fish.

  >It should contain several zones, located at different depths, so that plants with different habitat requirements have optimal conditions.

  >Pond walls should be at an angle of 450, to not fall down.

  CONSTRUCTION OF RESERVOIR

  >Do not neglect any stage of construction of the reservoir, as it can bring to us more extra work and damage.

  >After selecting the location and the project we start work by marking location of the excavation with stakes and string, along which we dig our tank excavation. Shelving system consists in reducing the pond surface together with deeper excavation progresses, and the levels we set in the same way as the first one.

  >From the bottom we mandatorily remove all the rocks, roots, debris that could damage the seal. At the bottom we pour in additional about 10 cm layer of sand, which will further protect the tank. On the market there is available a geotextile that will protect foil by attacking moles or roots. Lining the excavation with foil we start from the bottom, adjusting it to the shape of the pond. Too strong tightness can break foil under the pressure of water. We perform this operation when it is warm. The smaller pond the thinner foil.

  >The edges of pond we mask well to give them a natural look. Finish up with stones and gravel, so that the foil was directed 1-2 cm upwards.

  PLANTS

  >Plants which feeling well in the aquatic environment are hygrophytes their special group are hydrophytes - typical water plants like: water lilies, water caltrop, water -lettuce.

  >Underwater plants – pondweeds, horn-wort

  >Places where we want to put plants should be covered with sand or or a mixture of sand and clay, then cover with a layer of coarse gravel.

  >Another way to put plants in the pond are special baskets, suitable especially for plants greatly expanding.

  >Choosing plants we should adapt them to the nature of the garden, their form and color must be in harmony with the whole.

  >To avoid chaos chose only a few plant species. We should also remember that the selected varieties can spread in different ranges and this more expansive ones may displace the less expansive.

  >Pond will provide a natural look by choosing plants from different zones: coastal, wetlands, etc.

  >The appearance of our pond will become more attractive when we put into it varieties with floating leaves and flowers.

  > To decorate our pond we can use plants harvested from natural stands, it is important to give them growing conditions as close as possible to natural. Keep in mind that some species of aquatic plants are protected - water lilies, water caltrop etc.

  >Pond in our garden can be divided into three zones: water, coastal and swampy mud. To each of them we select the appropriate plants.

  >Multiplication of water plants we should do in the spring.

  > In the spring, when we put water lilies into the water, we should find for them a shallow place. When the leaves will float to the surface we move them to deeper water. It's a good time to divide the rhizomes of water-lilys. We cut them with a sharp knife to prevent rot, dusting with charcoal and then we live it to dry. After that arrange horizontally in baskets.

>Spring is a good time to trim some of the plants: reeds, grasses, rushes.
